It’s Earth Day today. It’s a time The challenge for Earth Day is to foster initiatives that last all through the year.

It’s all well and good to go to the EarthDay.net website and to register your one of a billion acts of green and become part of the Green Generation ™. I think anything that raises awareness of environmental issues and rewards people for taking part in solutions is laudable.

But if it doesn’t carry on throughout the rest of the year, that’s kind of sad.

This article on making Earth Day into an Earth Life talks about some of the challenges involved and suggests 3 simple steps to take:

  • Plant trees
  • Grow food
  • Cycle (or walk)

I’d like to add that it’s worth learning about New Urbanism – find out how Europeans use 8 times less energy per capita than Americans. Denser living, less driving, and transit oriented development pop into mind.

One of the aims of this blog is to keep you informed of green issues as they pertain to home buying and selling in Austin Texas, and I won’t just be posting on EarthDay!
